Drivers FAQ
Q: Why should I rent my rear windshield out?
Driving, commuting, gasoline and auto maintenance costs are a tremendous drain on anyone’s pocketbook. Finally, there is a good way to cut into that significant expense, and it’s not by driving less or taking the bus. RentMyWindshield allows you to find businesses in your area who are more than happy with the driving you do, and they’ll pay you for the chance to ride along.
Q: How much can I make by renting out my windshield?
A: All the drivers registered on RentMyWindshield.com negotiate their own prices. Some charge a premium for driving a long slow crowded commute and some just pick up an extra 20 to 30 dollars a month to cover gasoline while they drive to school a few times a week. RentMyWindshield.com is loaded with tips to help you to maximize your earning by showing off your commute or local travel in the best light possible, but in the end its totally up to you and the business partners with whom we’ll match you.
Q: How can I use RentMyWindshield.com?
A: Simply sign up. It’s totally FREE! Once you do, you can put your vehicle in front of the media buyers and local business people most willing to pay you for that space. We also include helpful tips and articles for both drivers and advertisers to help you to get started. You can also check out the resource section for drivers for tips on making your profile more attractive, how to set your prices and how to photograph your car.
Q. How can I make the most money for the driving I already do?
A: Once you sign up for RentMyWindshield, you simply fill in the Driver Profile completely. It asks for information on your regular commute, where you park and on the make and model of your vehicle. It will also ask you about other routine driving you do and there is a chance to upload pictures of your car. You’re also asked what areas of the car you are willing to rent and you can set your prices.
The most attractive profiles get the best response, and attractiveness can mean a long commute or a commute that goes through a heavily travelled area with regularity. It’s totally up to advertisers what they want to buy and what they want to pay for, so you’ll want to look carefully at the profiles of other drivers to see how they are selling the space on their vehicles.
Q: Who can join RentMyWindshield.com?
A: Anyone can join. RentMyWindshield.com is totally free. Local and Small Businesses join because windshields are more cost effective than traditional media, publicity and advertising outlets. Advertising Brokers and Buyers interested in presenting some of our drivers to their clients can also take advantage of the site. Of course, any driver interested in getting paid to do the driving they’re already doing is welcome to sign up and show off their car.
Q: Do I have to do anything else besides driving?
A: No. Some advertisers may ask you to carry some information or brochures in your vehicle to provide to anyone who asks for it. But every aspect of the negotiation is private and totally up to you to decide.
Q: Can I still see through the rear window with an advertisement in place?
A: Yes. All the advertising banners are produced on one
Q: How do I know what the back of my car is worth? How do I negotiate an advertising rental?
A: RentMyWindshield includes guidelines for setting the prices based on the number of hours and miles you are traveling and how you are using your vehicle. Obviously a bumper sticker is worth less than a rear windshield or vehicle wrap, but we offer a bunch of ways to really show off the driving you do in the best light possible.
Q: Who’s going to install the banner in/on my car?
A: Most banners and decals will be shipped to you with easy to follow instructions. Anything more complicated than that, from a larger adhesive advertisement to a full or partial vehicle wrap will be installed by the production team that makes it. Of course, you decide what part of your car you’re making available and that will determine how much trouble you’ll need to go to.
